Favorite Restaurants

For all people who just move in to New York, here are some of my favorite restaurants.

Momoya is the perfect place for lunch with a group of coworkers. Sit at a table and choose from a menu with Kitchen Entrées like Teriyaki, Scottish Salmon or Grass-Fed Rib Eye. Noodle dishes are served with wasabi seaweed tempura and oshinko. If you come solo or with a partner, you can find a seat at the sushi bar. The extensive sushi menu features entrées such as the eight-piece sushi, tuna roll or the 15-piece sashimi. Momoya is family friendly and has seating adequate for children. Your choice of Miso soup or salad comes with lunch specials. Beverages include an international wine list as well as specialty cocktails like the Gin Ray or the Momo splash created with peach sake, rose champagne and orange juice. If you are not able to dine-in or just prefer to dine at another location, Momoya offers both delivery and take-out options.

Ensconced in a renovated carriage house, located at 126 West 18th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenue, Portale Restaurant explores the many regions of Italy, taking inspiration from the country’s seasonally driven approach to cooking. You can expect an abundance of roasted vegetables, market salads, pastas and assorted grilled meats and fish. Portale’s offerings are intended to delight, restore and evoke a sense of the modern Italian flare. Our mission is to be thoughtful with everything we do, but never to be too fussy.

Jaz gets its name from owner Jaz Rupall who was born and raised as second generation British-Indian in Hertfordshire, England. After arriving in the United States, her longing for some home cooking inspired her to open Jaz in Hell’s Kitchen featuring the cuisine of Northern Indian. Leading the kitchen are two chefs - Bachan Rawat (Bukhara Grill) known for his curries and Arif Ahmed (Bombay Grill, Sapphire) to man the tandoor oven.

Motel Morris is a neighborhood restaurant and bar from the team behind The Commons Chelsea, located on the southwest corner of seventh avenue and eighteenth street in the Chelsea, New York City. Chef Bill McDaniel's menu is seasonal American with global influences and fun nods to classic American dishes. The beverage program consists of local craft beer, a fresh take on some classic cocktails, and a well curated wine list by GM Jamie Steinberg.

1986-  Danny Emerman and Chef Alessandro Prosperi opened their first restaurant, Barocco, in an obscure corner of Tribeca -- bringing their take on simple Tuscan cuisine to the downtown 80's Manhattan art and fashion world to great success. As their art-world clientele migrates to the gritty neighborhood of West Chelsea, they are encouraged by a handful of art dealers to look for space there.

1997- they rent a century-old hardware store on Tenth Avenue between 24th and 25th Sts -- reputedly home to a gun-running operation for the IRA during "The Troubles" -- and hire architect Thomas Leeser, who stripped the space down to it the brick walls, painting them gallery white, and brought in the mid-century modern influences and recycled 60's Eames and Knoll furniture that are the hallmark of the Bottino interior.

2019 - The young, English-born chef Jamie Kenyon formerly, Chef de Cuisine at Eataly, joins Danny and Alessandro in a partnership to infuse BOTTINO and its menu with new vibrancy and brings a fresh look at Italian cooking to take it into the next decade.

2020 - La storia continua..

Cookshop
at 156 10th Avenue at 20th Street New York, NY 10011

Cookshop came about through a longstanding desire to more fully incorporate the range of ingredients available in the Northeast, whether it was farm animals, agricultural products, or the emerging artisanal cheese movement.  To this day we continue to make every effort to ensure that the beliefs and values that were an inspiration on opening day continue to be a part of every dish we create.
